Cal State Fullerton sophomore Lauren Turner has tragically lost her life at such a young age.

The standout California college soccer player tragically lost her life nearly six weeks after she and her teammate were struck by a box truck while riding electric scooters near campus.

“Early this morning, our sweet Lauren fell asleep in the Lord. Our hearts are broken, and our family is forever changed,” Turner’s family wrote on GoFundMe.

“We will miss her beyond measure, yet we take great comfort in knowing she is now in the loving embrace of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

The 19-year-old passed away on November 7 after she was critically injured and left in a coma from the horrific crash that originally happened on September 27.

“Lauren approached everything she did with heart and joy. She was funny, full of life, and had a gift for making people laugh and feel at ease,” the grieving family wrote.

“Her laughter was a reflection of the joy God placed in her heart. As a dedicated soccer player, she was known for her encouragement, determination, and the way she lifted up those around her. Her teammates and coaches have shared countless stories of her positivity, humor, competitiveness, and leadership – reminders of the light she carried both on and off the field.”

Young college student-athletes dying has become far too common in recent years. Former college star James Lynn Marshall was fatally shot during the summer, while 18-year-old college football player Kevon Walker was found dead in his central Pennsylvania dormitory last year.

What Happened To Lauren Turner?

Lauren Turner and teammate Ashlyn Gwynn, who survived but is currently undergoing a long rehabilitation program, were riding scooters near Association Road and Yorba Linda Boulevard.

According to the Fullerton Police Department, at the same time the two women were riding electric scooters southbound on Association in the second lane, a box truck, which was also traveling southbound in the same lane, collided with both riders.

The accident was so bad that both Turner and Gwynn were taken to the hospital in critical condition. Electric scooters lay in the road as police investigated the cause of the crash, according to a video that KCAL obtained.

Alcohol or drugs are not believed to have played a factor in the tragic accident, the Fullerton Police Department said.

On Wednesday of this week, students and athletes at California State University for a candlelight vigil to honor the life and legacy of Lauren Turner.
