Detroit’s biggest football day just got even more exciting. The Lions are teaming up with the city’s most famous fan, Eminem, for their Thanksgiving game against the Green Bay Packers.

The team announced on Thursday that Eminem and his longtime manager, Paul Rosenberg, will be the executive producers of the Thanksgiving Day halftime show. So, instead of just watching the game, Eminem will help run the show.

The rapper and Rosenberg have signed a multi-year deal with the Lions to shape the Thanksgiving Halftime Show, sponsored by Verizon, through 2027. They’ll help choose the artists and plan the overall production to make the show even bigger.

“It’s an honor for us to team up with the Lions and be a part of the greatest tradition in Detroit sports,” Rosenberg said in a team statement. “We look forward to putting together unforgettable shows featuring world-class artists for the fans at Ford Field and the tens of millions watching around the country.”

For Detroit fans, this feels like a full-circle moment. Eminem has supported the city for years, through the Lions’ tough seasons and their recent comeback under coach Dan Campbell. Many have spotted him on the sidelines during the playoffs, supporting the Lions, especially at the 2023 NFC Championship Game against the 49ers.

Now, he’s playing a big part in one of the NFL’s biggest traditions. The Lions’ Thanksgiving game has always been special for Detroit. But this new partnership promises even more excitement and star power at Ford Field.

The timing couldn’t be better. The Lions are back in form after a 44-22 win over the Commanders, improving to 6-3. They’ll face the defending Super Bowl champion Eagles (7-2) on Sunday night before focusing on the Packers for Thanksgiving.

Eminem and Paul Rosenberg will make Detroit’s holiday game feel a lot more like 8 Mile.
