College Football Star Enters Transfer Portal Months After Stabbing Two Teammates in Attempted Murder Nightmare

Former University of Alabama at Birmingham football player Daniel Mincey is facing assault charges.

Daniel Mincey, a University of Alabama at Birmingham football player, turned his life upside down late last year. The 20-year-old college football player from the University of Alabama at Birmingham was arrested for stabbing teammates.

He was charged with attempted murder and first-degree assault. Mincey is accused of stabbing his teammates at the University’s Football Operations Building. That was what NBC Miami reported, citing court records. The incident reportedly occurred hours before the UAB Blazers played against the South Florida Bulls.

The athlete was subsequently held on a $90,000 bail at Jefferson County Jail. Despite what he has hanging over his head, Daniel Mincey is not letting it affect his career.

Former UAB offensive lineman Daniel Mincey was arrested after allegedly stabbing two defensive linemen on the Blazers’ roster.

The 20-year-old redshirt freshman from Pompano Beach, Florida, is now ready for a fresh start. Despite facing multiple charges, Mincey reportedly entered the transfer portal. This has to be done prior to the start of his redshirt sophomore season in college football.

Following the stabbing, a judge ordered probation services to conduct a youthful offender investigation before Mincey’s plea hearing in January 2026.

One of two UAB football players stabbed inside the team’s Football Operations Center broke his silence last month. Joshua Underwood, a first-year walk-on defensive lineman, says the situation began the day before the stabbing. JaSire Peterson, the other person stabbed, got into a fight with Mincey during practice.

“After that happened, things kinda took a turn,” Underwood said per ABC 3340.

“We were separating them, one person went to one side of the field, the other side of the field, then they sent them home due to security reasons.”

He says both players were told to leave the facility, but neither returned for dinner that evening. The next morning, everything appeared normal. However, the fight would resume inside the building.

“In my mind, OK hey these guys are fighting, I need to try to break this up,” he said. “Not knowing when I went to grab my teammate to break up the fight, I see people standing around, waiting for someone to jump and make the first move and break it up.”

Underwood had no clue that a weapon was involved.

“I jumped in, I went and grabbed my teammate, not knowing Mincey has a knife in his hand,” Underwood said. “When I went to grab my teammate, I felt something hit me in my hand. I thought it was just my hand smooshing between the door or wall or something.”

“By the time I got them separated, I looked back, my body was in shock,” he said. “I saw a knife in his hand.”

“I was calling for the coach, the coach was not knowing what happened,” he said. “I just start saying I’ve been stabbed, I’ve been stabbed. By the time I was trying to make it to the coach’s office my body went into complete shock and I dropped to the floor.”

Both Underwood and Peterson were taken to the hospital and later released.
