Clemson Tigers football head coach Dabo Swinney was screaming so loudly at his players that you could partially hear it on the live ESPN broadcast.

The Tigers suffered a heartbreaking 46-45 loss to the visiting Duke squad on Saturday, dropping them to 3-5 on the year. The loss was additionally frustrating because of a questionable pass interference call that aided Duke at the end.

But the Tigers’ defense was also non-existent in this must-win game. And during the final seconds of the first half, Dabo Swinney let his defense hear it on the sidelines in a scathing rant that could be heard on TV:

You don’t see Dabo Swinney react like that very often. It’s just a sign of how low morale is for this football team right now.

Clemson’s gut-wrenching defeat came after a horrific defensive pass interference call against Avieon Terrell that nullified a game-winning fourth-down stop. Terrell was clearly tackled to the ground here and, if anything, should have drawn an offensive PI flag:

Duke went for the two-point conversion and succeeded on the attempt to complete the improbable comeback.

Clemson’s 2025 season got off to a nightmare 1-3 start, including home losses to LSU and Syracuse. They rebounded with consecutive blowout wins over North Carolina and Boston College to get back to .500.

Just when it looked like they were figuring it out, Clemson dropped a 35-24 home game to SMU before falling to Duke on Saturday. Renowned for their stingy defense, the Tigers have allowed 34-plus points in three of their five losses.

There are only four games remaining for Clemson, but even finishing 7-5 would not be considered a success for this perennial powerhouse of a football team.
