Miami Hurricanes Quarterback Is Entering NCAA Transfer Portal After National Championship Loss

The news just got worse for Miami.

The Miami Hurricanes already lost the National Championship, and now they are losing Emory Williams.

The next day after the game, Hoosiers redshirt freshman quarterback Alberto Mendoza entered the transfer portal. They are losing the brother of Fernando Mendoza, who is headed to the NFL. At least they are coming off a national Championship victory.

On the other side, the Hurricanes lost the game after not being there in over 20 years. Carson Beck only had one year of eligibility left, so he is headed to the NFL as well. Now the program is losing another quarterback.

Miami Hurricanes longtime backup quarterback Emory Williams is entering the transfer portal. Williams, who spent three seasons at Miami and played in just 12 games, announced his decision on social media.

“He’ll have two seasons remaining. Williams is expected to target East Carolina as his transfer school, which is expected to be formalized in the upcoming days,” ESPN insider Pete Thamel said.

Coming out of high school, Williams stood out as a three-star quarterback with an 88 score on 247Sports.

Less than 24 hours after Miami’s 27–21 national championship loss to Indiana on Monday night, Emory Williams bolted.

The sophomore backup quarterback entered the portal on Tuesday. Two years ago, Williams was on the field crying in pain after a brutal injury. He has been at the school since 2023. Williams has appeared in a total of 12 games, including five this past season. He has completed 62.9% of his passes for 813 yards, four touchdowns, and two interceptions.

Emory Williams served as Carson Beck’s backup last season and was behind No. 1 overall NFL draft pick Cam Ward in 2024. He clearly wants to play. Williams will have two seasons of eligibility remaining.

ESPN’s Pete Thamel says he is targeting a transfer to East Carolina. He should have a shot at securing the starting role for the Pirates.
