The NFL has suspended Cincinnati Bengals star wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase for allegedly spitting on Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Jalen Ramsey during Sunday’s testy game at Acrisure Stadium.

In the fourth quarter of Sunday’s game, Jalen Ramsey was ejected for punching Ja’Marr Chase in the face as they exchanged some words. After the game, Ramsey told reporters that the punch was in retaliation for being spat on by Chase, who denied doing such a thing.

The league, however, didn’t buy Chase’s side of the story.

Per NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, the NFL has suspended Chase one game for the alleged spitting incident. That means he’ll miss Sunday’s home game against the New England Patriots and will be eligible to return in Week 13 against the Baltimore Ravens.

In their statement on the decision, the NFL cited that Chase violated Rule 12, Section 3, Article 1. This applies to “any act which is contrary to the generally understood principles of sportsmanship.”

The NFL has yet to announce any punishment for Jalen Ramsey, who will likely receive at least a fine.

The Bengals’ season was doomed when quarterback Joe Burrow suffered a turf toe injury in Week 2 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. But the defense has also been historically bad this season, as they’re in danger of giving up the most points in a single season.

With Ja’Marr Chase getting suspended for a must-win home game against the surging Patriots, it’s just another unfortunate reminder that Murphy’s Law has hit the 2025 Bengals: Anything that could go wrong will go wrong.
