The UFC’s lightweight division is one of the most exciting and toughest divisions. Fans have seen multiple stars emerge from it. Recently, Ilia Topuria has become a huge name in the lightweight division. But Arman Tsarukyan thinks the UFC is protecting ‘El Matador’ from him.

Tsarukyan is the number one-ranked lightweight. Meanwhile, many fighters believe Arman Tsarukyan has earned a title shot, but the UFC instead matched him up with Dan Hooker at UFC Qatar. When asked about fighting Ilia Topuria, Tsarukyan talked about it on Ariel Helwani’s show and said:

“I’m the only one that can beat Ilia, for now, in our division… And everybody knows that. Even the UFC knows that, that’s why they’re trying to push him as much as possible.”

The number one-ranked lightweight also mentioned that even Paddy Pimblett can’t beat Topuria. Meanwhile, fans are eagerly waiting for Topuria’s next move and who he’ll face next.

Ilia Topuria now holds the belt, and every top contender wants a piece of him. But Paddy Pimblett believes Arman Tsarukyan is the real threat, calling him a true lightweight. Topuria captured the title with a knockout win over Charles Oliveira, yet Pimblett, who’s had his fair share of trash talk with him, questioned his place in the division.

“Arman is more of a proper lightweight. I think stylistically Arman is a tougher fight than Ilia. He’s more of a proper lightweight. I think he’s got better grappling than Ilia. Stylistically, for me, Arman is a tougher fight.”

Tsarukyan and ‘Paddy the baddy’ both have their eyes on Ilia Topuria. If Tsarukyan gets past Dan Hooker, he’ll almost certainly earn a shot at the lightweight belt. Many fans believe his wrestling could finally be the key to stopping Topuria’s dominant run.
