Good Morning America has been a staple of ABC since 1975. Thanks to this, fans have seen a number of hosts on the show.
Recently, viewers were treated to a shakeup on the long-running talk show. Since then, fans have been wondering what happened to one of the regular co-hosts.

This past Wednesday, GMA shared a video with sportscaster Joe Buck on the show. He was sitting alongside Robin Roberts and Michael Strahan.
In the clip, Roberts could be heard saying, “It’s not just any Wednesday—we’ve got Joe Buck here with us at the desk. So many of us know, love him from Monday Night Football, his years of college football and baseball games. Great to have you here.” In turn, Buck replied, “It’s good to be here, thank you.”
Many Fans Took To Social Media To Share Their Concern For George Stephanopoulos
Strahan then commented on the timing. As he noted, “Football games are usually late. It’s a little early, so we got you something, man. We’ve got you a mug with some coffee and an alarm clock. Make sure you wake up early the rest of the week.”
Buck admitted that the morning show was a bit early for him. As he shared, “I don’t know how you do this every day. Tip of the cap. Unbelievable. But it’s great. Thank you for having me. I’ll try not to drive the ratings into the ground.”
The show was more than accommodating towards Buck, even writing, “Welcome to the GMA anchor desk, @joebuck!” in the caption. However, many fans took to social media to ask what happened to George Stephanopoulos.
As one fan wrote, “What happened to George? Please explain GMA. Is this guy his permanent replacement? Inquiring minds want to know.” As noted by USA Today, the change is temporary.
According to the publication, Stephanopoulos is simply away on vacation, with Buck just filling in, not replacing him. At this time, it’s unclear on just when George will be back. However, Front Office Sports confirmed that Buck will fill in from Wednesday through Friday. ESPN sports journalist Malika Andrews will then have hosting duties over the weekend.
That said, fans continued to ask, perhaps jokingly, if Stephanopoulos is gone for good from the show. A few fans were really worried they’d seen the last of George. Of course, Buck had a few fans, too. Some comments included:
