Today Show Host Sheinelle Jones Takes Time Off To Mourn Husband

Sheinelle Jones stepped away from her position as host of the Today Show in December of 2024 to take care of her husband, Uche Ojeh, who was battling brain cancer. Uche ended up passing away from his illness in May of 2025. He was only 45 years old. Many fans have shared their condolences with. Jones has taken time off work to grieve and focus on being present for her children.

Fans have been very supportive of Sheinelle Jones in her grief. However, fans have missed seeing their favorite host every morning, and are wondering if she will be returning. Jones, co-host and friend of Dylan Dreyer, recently updated fans on how the morning host is doing. Dylan revealed that right now, Jones is focusing on being a support system for her children. Dreyer said:

“She’s incredible. You know, she’s in mom mode right now. She has three young kids that she has to care for. It’s a really tough time for the family. We are all there to support her in any way we can, and she’s just taking the time she needs to spend with those kids. I can’t even imagine what they’re going through, what she’s going through, and she’s just being strong for them.”

Today Show Host Sheinelle Jones Future Uncertain

Dylan Dreyer was unclear about her co-host’s future on the Today Show. However, she did confirm that everyone is ready to welcome Sheinelle Jones back to the set when she is ready. The Today Show cast are very close with one another and supportive of eachother. Dylan revealed that it is common for them to lean on one another in difficult times. She said “It really is like a family.” Dreyer also shared:

“We call each other all the time, even just … you know, Al Roker’s the first person to send me a handwritten letter and just be like, ‘Hey, just want you to know I’m proud of you.’ And it’s like, ‘Oh, Al!’”
