Tom Llamas shared the latest on Iran
Tom Llamas filled viewers in on the developing story in the Middle East in regards to Iran’s retaliation against the United States’ aggression.
In fact, he kept the news immediate and time sensitive saying, “Just moments ago we learned Iran struck CIA headquarters on the U.S. embassy compound in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia late Monday night,” the NBC host explained to viewers. The strike was a dual drone attack, though, it’s unclear if the attack was targeted.
Plus, the rising tensions weren’t exclusive to Saudi Arabia. Iran reportedly targeted other embassies across the world. Tom explained that citizens at the U.S. embassy in Jordan received a “stark warning.” The journalist played a video from the area where a voice was heard telling those in the area, “Duck and cover. Get away from the window. Take cover and await further instruction.”
President 𝓓𝓸𝓷𝓪𝓵𝓭 𝓣𝓻𝓾𝓶𝓹, alongside Israel, started their aggression toward Iran on February 28, 2026 in an operation dubbed “Operation Epic Fury.” The president, despite not having the constitutional authority to do so, declared war on the nation of Iran.
In response, Iran warned they were prepared to retaliate — and they followed through on that notion.
Further, Tom spoke with a journalist who was previously jailed in Iran by the regime. Jason Rezaian, formerly of the Washington Post, was detained in 2014 for 544 days and put through interrogation and psychological torture. He expressed concern about the reaction to the weakened Iranian regime.

The Middle East was inflicted with additional war after Trump strike
While Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was killed in the strikes, Jason explained that the government isn’t necessarily completely toppled.
“I’m thinking a lot about the political prisoners and hostages that remain in the very sam prison that I was being held — prisoners all throughout Iran. I think that’s a humanitarian catastrophe that nobody’s talking about,” he said.

American lives have been lost amid the conflict
Tom noted he’s aware of six Americans held at the moment in Iran.
“As much as I understood and understand the elation and celebratory response … It’s not the end of the story by any means. The system is still in tact, obviously weakened, but it appears this is going to be a long road for Iranians,” he said.
Additionally, the journalist speculate that Trump’s strike was led by Israel. “I don’t think that Trump really wanted to get into this war. He also probably was sold the notion that this was going to be an easy cake walk,” he said, adding, “The idea that killing the leader would end it was a fallacy to being with.” Jason speculated Trump was given bad intelligence.
