Hoda Kotb became a household name from co-anchoring NBC News’ Today show and co-hosting alongside Jenna Bush Hager for Today with Hoda & Jenna.

Kotb’s tenure as a part of the Today family ended after nearly 30 years when she parted ways earlier this year in January.

Throughout her years, she quickly became the heart of the Today show, from wackier moments drinking wine on morning television and officiating weddings and vow renewals on camera to sharing her personal battle with cancer and her family life.

Kotb was also a part of a mini-revolution at the network when she became co-host on the Today show alongside Savannah Guthrie after Matt Lauer was fired due to allegations of sexual misconduct.  Overall, her time on the show has been nothing short of powerful, inspiring, and deeply human.

While dedicated Today show fans miss her presence on their TV screens weekday mornings, the dedicated news personality is continuing to share life updates, from small to big moments.

These are the six life updates we have received since Kotb exited the Today show:

Hoda Kotb’s next career move following tenure on the Today show

When Hoda Kotb announced her departure from the show, she told audiences, “I just turned 60, and it was such a monumental moment for me when I turned 60 years old because I started thinking about that decade, like, what does that decade mean? What does it hold? What’s it gonna have for me?”

She added, “And I realized that it was time for me to turn the page at 60 and to try something new.”

Kotb told Page Six that she will be a special correspondent for the Today show and NBC covering exclusive interviews and the next two Olympics — the 2026 Milan Winter Olympics and the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

“I think it’ll be kind of a Snoop-ish role,” she told Page Six, referring to Snoop Dogg’s correspondent role for the 2024 Paris games.

She will continue hosting her “Making Space” podcast, and she also announced that she’s releasing a wellness app called Joy 101.

Hoda Kotb’s celebrated Emmy nomination

Hoda Kotb was nominated for the Daytime Emmy Award alongside her Today co-host Jenna Bush Hager for hosting their show, Today with Hoda & Jenna.

On Monday, July 14, Bush Hager facetimed the retired Today co-host to celebrate the news. Bush Hager jokingly said the pair were “the Susan Lucci of Daytime Emmy hosts,” as they have been nominated for the Emmy several times without winning.

“We’ve been nominated multiple times and yet we’ve never won, but to get to be nominated next to Hoda after the show is complete after we had our year together, our last year — which I know was really meaningful to me and I’m pretty sure it was meaningful for her,” Bush Hager said on the show.

“Let me tell you something, this is our last hurrah,” Kotb told Bush Hager.

Continuing, she said, “This is happening. Kelly Clarkson, who is what I’d like to say. No, I’m kidding. We love Kelly so much. We love her. But it’s our turn. As I’ve said to Jenna, we’re gonna go get her. G-I-T E-R.”

Hoda Kotb’s revealed her daughter Hope’s health situation

Ahead of Hoda Kotb’s exit from the Today show, she revealed that 6-year-old daughter has been struggling with health issues.

In an exclusive interview with People, Kotb revealed that her daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and this played a role in her decision to leave the coveted broadcast spot.

“It’s kind of constant care for Hope. We’re monitoring her 24/7,” Kotb shared calling her daughter a “trooper” for getting throughout the treatments.

“I really wanted to and needed to be here to watch over her. So, whenever she needs anything, and it can happen at night, multiple times, I’m up — I’m up up up,” she explained. “But I would never, ever want Hope to one day grow up and say, ‘Oh, my mom left her job because [of me].’ It wasn’t that alone. But if you look at it cumulatively, it was a part of that decision.”

In a brief return to the Today show on Sept. 9, Hoda Kotb shared an emotional moment with her former colleague, Sheinelle Jones. Jones’ husband, Uche Ojeh, died from brain cancer in May.

“I just said to Sheinelle, she’s changing lives just by being exactly who she is,” Kotb said referencing Jones opening up in a sit-down with Savannah Guthrie about her grief and perseverance.

Continuing, she said, “Three of my friends called immediately after you guys were talking and said that they felt forever changed after listening to that conversation.”

Rumors were circulating that Hoda Kotb would replace Kelly Clarkson

Hoda Kotb put recent rumors to rest that she would be replacing Kelly Clarkson on her talk show on a June 5 episode of Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen.

During the show, a fan asked, “I heard there were rumors that you might be starting a daytime talk show… Is that something you would ever consider doing?”

Kotb clarified that the fan was referring to the Kelly Clarkson replacement rumors.

“I feel like Kelly is in a class all by herself,” Kotb answered. “My whole thing with talk shows and all that stuff. I’m a never say-never person. You don’t know what life’s gonna bring you. But, at this moment, I’m having such fun with the ride that I’m on.”

Kotb exclusively told US Weekly that working with her former co-host isn’t off the table for future endeavors.

“I’m a never-say-never person,” Kotb said. “I also can imagine working with Jenna again one day.”

There may even be a secret project they work on together in the future.
