Congratulations are in order for legendary country music star Carrie Underwood on Wednesday afternoon.
Underwood, one of the most successful country music stars of the 21st century, will be back for the 2025 NFL regular season. Underwood, 42, is returning for her 13th straight NFL season. She’ll once again be singing “Waiting All Day for Sunday Night.”
NBC’s creative director officially announced the big news.
“For the 20th season of SNF, we wanted to set the tone for the night by reimagining the anthem sound in a way that plays to Carrie’s powerhouse vocals, while visually creating a seamless blend of stylized shots and behind-the-scenes moments evoking the national roadshow that is Sunday Night Football, week after week in the fall.”
Underwood is excited, too.
“We had a blast shooting the new opening at The Resorts World Theatre again,” added Underwood. “As always, Tripp and the creative team continue to raise the bar, bringing the high energy and stunning visuals that the Sunday Night Football audience has come to expect year after year. I can’t wait for the world to see it!”

Underwood’s new opener will debut Sept. 7
NBC’s first NFL regular season game of 2025 will air on Thursday, Sept. 4. The reigning Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles will be hosting the Dallas Cowboys in the first matchup of the season. It should be a good one.
However, Underwood’s new “Sunday Night Football” song will debut on Sunday, Sept. 7.
She recorded the song at the Resorts World Theatre in Las Vegas. The song will debut on Sunday, Sept. 7, in the first SNF game of the 2025 season.
The Buffalo Bills will be taking on the Baltimore Ravens in that big-time matchup.
