Caitlin Clark Makes Heartbreaking Announcement That Leaves Fans Stunned
Basketball superstar Caitlin Clark announced she’s out for the rest of the WNBA season due to a groin injury.
Clark has been sidelined since she injured her right groin during a July 15 game against the Connecticut Sun. She also suffered a bone bruise during her recovery process, the Indiana Fever said.
The injury caused her to pull out of the All-Star Game later that month.
“Disappointed isn’t a big enough word to describe how I am feeling,” the 23-year-old Indiana Fever point guard wrote on social media Thursday.
“I had hoped to share a better update, but I will not be returning to play this season. I spent hours in the gym every day with the singular goal of getting back out there,” she wrote to her fans.
“I want to thank everyone who had my back through all the uncertainty. This has been incredibly frustrating, but even in the bad, there is good,” she continued. “ The way the fans continued to show up for me, and for the Fever, brought me so much joy and important perspective.”
Clark said she remains “so proud” of her team, which “has only gotten stronger through adversity this year.”
“Now it’s time to close out the season and claim our spot in the Playoffs,” she concluded her message.
Indiana Fever COO and General Manager Amber Cox said the team is continuing to work with Clark and that her “long-term health and well-being remains our top priority.”
“Caitlin has worked so hard throughout this time, doing everything possible to recover and return to the court but, ultimately, time is not on our side,” Cox said. “We are looking forward to having her back at full strength to start the 2026 season.”
The Indiana Fever shared her post on X, with a caption of three red hearts.
The 2024 Rookie of the Year has suffered several injuries this year, including to her left groin and a left quad strain earlier this season.
Clark, a two-time All-Star, has appeared in 13 games during the regular season. She’s averaged 16.5 points, 8.8 assists and 5.0 rebounds per game, the team said.
