It just got louder. Sydney Sweeney has been the center of online chaos for over a week. And now, things have taken another sharp turn. After the internet blasted over her American Eagle ad, the “Euphoria” star’s political party has come to light.
It’s not a leaked text or some off-the-record moment. It’s her official voter registration, and it’s already making noise.
Voter Records Confirm GOP Registration Of Sweeney

According to the New York Post, Sydney Sweeney registered as a Republican in June 2024. She’s listed in public voter rolls in Monroe County, Florida. That detail alone is now being treated as a fresh round of ammunition by critics already up in arms over her recent denim campaign.
Let’s rewind a bit. American Eagle’s latest ad featured Sweeney talking about, not politics, but jeans and, somehow, genetics. “Genes are passed down from parents to offspring, often determining traits like hair color, personality and even eye color,” Sweeney says in the ad. “My jeans are blue.”
The message, meant to be playful, didn’t land that way for many. Accusations of “white supremacy” and “Nazi propaganda” started surfacing online, with ESPN contributor David Dennis Jr. calling the ad “mortifying.” Social media has been on fire ever since.
Even Donald Trump said in during an interview with Newsmax. “I’ve done ads where I thought they were lousy, and they turned out to be iconic… so to each his own,” he said. No direct praise or criticism, just classic Trump fence-sitting.
Sweeney, meanwhile, hasn’t said a word about any of it. No Instagram story. No tweet. Nothing. She’s stayed completely silent through the backlash.
American Eagle finally stepped in with a statement: “Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans is and always was about the jeans. Her jeans. Her story.” The company said it will continue to celebrate how everyone wears their AE jeans “with confidence, their way.”
But now, with Sweeney’s Republican status out in the open, expect the debate to rage on, even if the campaign was never meant to be political.
