Stephen A. Smith is not holding back despite his ongoing clashes with LeBron James. During a recent appearance on the Gil’s Arena podcast, the longtime ESPN personality admitted that his relationship with the Los Angeles Lakers star is strained beyond repair. According to Smith, the tension is not going away anytime soon; he is okay with that.
Smith explained that their issue remained rooted in his role as a media figure. He says his commentary on James is always a part of his job, but personal. Still, their friction grew, especially after Smith publicly criticized James’s handling of his son, Bronny James’s, early NBA career. However, he never misses a chance to express his opinion on James’ well-being.
“I don’t talk about him unless I’m asked,” Smith said. “Some people say, ‘Well, why do you talk about him?’ Cause I was asked. This is what I do for a living, so how the hell do I get away with saying ‘No comment?’ I have no desire to talk about him at all.”
Smith also suggested that James and his team worked behind the scenes to damage his reputation. He claims the personal jabs, including James’s appearance on the Pat McAfee Show, crossed the line. Smith now says he is done trying to fix things and is completely okay with never speaking to James again.
Stephen A. Smith Makes Bold Statement On LeBron James’ Parenting

The turning point in their feud came when Smith addressed LeBron’s parenting on national television. He said, “As a father, I’m pleading with you to stop.” The comment did not sit well with James, who confronted Smith courtside during an Lakers game. The heated exchange reportedly included language Smith believes is unsuitable for FCC airwaves.
Since that moment, things have not calmed down. James largely ignored Smith’s show, especially any mentions of Bronny. Smith, for his part, kept his distance too. While both seemingly moved on publicly, Smith’s latest remarks make it clear the relationship is not just broken, it is something they can’t repair ahead.
