David Muir has shared a special message with fans to mark Thanksgiving while he takes a break from his ABC show.
The TV host, 52, has been replaced by Linsey Davis, 48, on ABC World News Tonight, with the journalist stepping in to report on major developments this week, such as the death of West Virginia National Guard member Sarah Beckstrom, Vladimir Putin’s demands as the war between Russia and Ukraine continues, as well as Pope Leo’s first foreign trip.
But David hasn’t forgotten to keep his fans updated while away from our TV screens and on Thursday, he took to Instagram to share a special message for Thanksgiving. Sharing some photos of his dog, Axel, on the social media platform, David wrote, “Happy Thanksgiving from this.”
Fans were happy to see David’s post and they wished him Happy Thanksgiving too. One wrote, “Best post of the day! Happy Thanksgiving! Very grateful for every night World News David Muir!” Another said, “So handsome! Happy Thanksgiving!”
A third added, “So Regal & Handsome. Grateful to you, your news & authenticity. Happy Thanksgiving.” A fan commented, “Thankful for you, David, speaking the truthful facts @6:30pm, weeknights! just like that, there you are.”

“Happy Thanksgiving to you and Axel,” another said. Someone else wrote, “Adorable. Happy Thanksgiving!” The TV host rarely gives his millions of fans an insight into his private life, but when the holiday season comes around, he does appear to treat fans to some glimpses into his life away from the spotlight.
David hasn’t shared further insights into his Thanksgiving Day so far, but last year he celebrated the holiday with his family. Taking to his Instagram Stories at the time, the ABC News icon shared a snap of his sister, Rebecca Muir, setting the table for dinner.
Rebecca dazzled in a black top as she arranged a bouquet of flowers for the centerpiece. “Happy Thanksgiving. My sister. Some flowers and a bunch of turkeys,” David captioned the photo. He also shared a snapshot of his beloved pet dog captioning it, “I got some turkey too because I’m a good boy.”

“A million reasons to be thankful – wishing you a Happy Thanksgiving ( back to cooking ),” followed by a screaming face emoji. The David and Axel content appears to be a running Thanksgiving tradition.
The year before, in 2020, David shared a smiley selfie which featured his adorable pup and penned alongside it, “Post run, pre turkey w this turkey. There is so much to be thankful for – especially during this challenging time. Happy Thanksgiving.”
